NSW Club Championships 2024: Club vs Club

What a weekend it was! The NSW Club Championships hit Forster on Saturday, May 17th, and boy, did it bring the drama, both on and off the course. All the NSW Triathlon clubs came together to race against each other as a team. Mother Nature seemed to have a sense of humour, offering us a repeat performance of that soggy Byron week right up until we arrived. But surprisingly, on race day itself, the weather turned perfect with clear skies, a bit of a breeze, and just the right amount of sunshine. The sea temperature was also surprisingly warm, making the open-water swim more enjoyable than we could have hoped for.

A Year of Growth & Grit

Last year’s club champs saw only a handful of us lining up, which made it pretty obvious: quality beats quantity when it comes to winning. Inspired (and possibly a little competitive), a few of us kicked off a club-wide campaign to rally as many members as possible. Our goal? To give ourselves a real shot at conquering our division. We trained, we recruited, and we dreamt of victory. Little did we know, the new scoring system was about to throw us a curveball.

New Rules, Same Dream

Just when we thought we had our strategy nailed, we discovered the points system was changing. No worries, we adapted! We gave it our all. And guess what? We were only a few points shy of taking the top spot. That’s right, folks we were bridesmaids for Division 4.

Division Showdown & Friendly Competition

There were 14 clubs in our division, small to medium-sized clubs all vying for glory. The competition was fierce, the camaraderie even fiercer. We may not have claimed gold this year, but we certainly left our mark. And a huge shoutout to Brighton Baths Club for their fantastic win.

Celebration & Festivities

After the event, we didn’t just head home quietly, we enjoyed a lovely picnic by the sea pool, wishing Byron had one! Then, the evening continued with a formal dinner hosted by Warringah Tri Club followed by the Tri NSW Awards and Presentations. The highlight? Winning the North Coast Interclub League for the 24/25 season AGAIN! And because we love to have a good time, we hit the dance floor with our “hippies” theme, tie-dye shirts, headbands, peace signs, and all. Who knew we had so many flower children in our club?

In Conclusion: More Than Just a Trophy

The Forster weekend wasn’t just about medals or points, it was about coming together, pushing our limits, and having fun as a team. Whilst it was a long drive, it was absolutely worth it. We’re already planning for next year, with even bigger goals and, hopefully, a little less weather-related drama.

Thanks to everyone who participated, cheered, volunteered and kept the faith, you're the real champions. Until next year, keep training, keep smiling, and remember: every race is part of the journey.
